In addition to the two trades we entered earlier today, I’d like to make one additional upside play which is a little more speculative in nature. As you probably know, 2008 saw the top casino stocks get absolutely clobbered — and none of them got hit worse than Las Vegas Sands (LVS – NYSE).A weekly chart shows you the carnage:
But if you extend the chart out to a daily view, you’ll see that the stock has just recently traded above the 50-day moving average — which could be an official breakout signal. Therefore, in my eyes, we have a high-beta stock trading at super-low levels.
Any momentum could easily carry shares of LVS into the mid teens, which squarely puts the risk versus reward scenario in our favor. Let’s play it using February calls. Here’s the trade:
