PLAY: Add to your JASO February 5 Calls (QJP BA) at or under $0.70, good for the day. Lower your protective stop limit to $0.30.

PLAY: Add to your LVS February 7.5 Calls (LJJ BU) at or under $1.10, good for the day. Lower your protective stop limit to $0.50.

Dear Bottarelli Research Member,

First off, congratulations on a really nice play on Visa (V – NYSE). Like I mentioned yesterday, all we needed was a $2.00 down-move to make a sweet 40% to 50% gainer, and that’s exactly what happened this morning. Nice trading!

As it stands right now, we’re holding KSS January 40 Puts (KSS MH), JASO February 5 Calls (QJP BA), and LVS February 7.5 Calls (LJJ BU). Starting with Kohls, I cannot possibly imagine who in their right mind would be buying this stock today, especially with the bad news coming out of Wal-Mart (WMT – NYSE). If the world’s best retailer can’t survive this recession, then how can KSS even stand a chance? Let’s maintain our puts for more downside. This story is far from over.

KSS

On the other hand, I’d like to use the February expiration dates — and pending support at their 50-day moving averages — to add to both of our upside call plays. As you can see from the two charts below, both LVS and JASO popped aggressively above their 50-day moving averages, and they’re now looking to re-establish support at this level. If this support level holds (and I think it will), we’ll see forthcoming upside in each stock. Therefore, let’s add to each position now!

JASO

LVS

PLAY: Add to your JASO February 5 Calls (QJP BA) at or under $0.70, good for the day. Lower your protective stop limit to $0.30.

PLAY: Add to your LVS February 7.5 Calls (LJJ BU) at or under $1.10, good for the day. Lower your protective stop limit to $0.50.

Another interesting situation could come in online education stocks like Apollo Group (APOL – NASDAQ). With the nation on the fast-track to 10% unemployment, there’s a good chance that a large number of people might decide to continue their education while they’re out of work. And what better way to do this than studying online? This could offer a big lift to enrollment numbers at APOL. I’ll monitor this situation closely, and if APOL bounces off the $72.50 level, we could have a nice upside call play.

APOL

Until then…

Lock and load!

Sincerely,

Bryan Bottarelli
